Hi Thank you.... My 98 year old father had prostrate cancer years ago. His last PSI was .04. He has been taking Bicalutamide 50 mg. Our question is can this medication have anything to do with his stroke he just had 3 days ago and the stroke he had in December. This one was caused by Atrial fib and damaged 5cm of his Posterior Occipital Lobe :( . He is an Electrical Engineer and always studying about something. He studied the brain and feels Hormones have a lot to do with the Axioms and Dentrites ... Should he just go off the medication for peace of mind.... He had radiation probably about 7 - 8 years ago.
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have read your question and here is my advice.
You are very right, this drug can cause rhythm abnormality of the heart, Atrial Fibrillation is one of them. Therefore, if he does not have any other cause (AF is common in old age) this drug can be the cause, however you should not stop it on your own. You must talk to your doctor in this regard.
I hope I have answered your question. I would be glad to answer any further question you have.
Regards,
Dr. Rahman
