My dad has COPD. He uses a nebulizer each morning containing Ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate solution. He wants to know if he can also use the drug BREO? He is 81 and on oxygen. Would the use of both improve his breathing? Or is the use of both of these medications not recommended? In other words, use one or the other, but not both?
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. BREO is having fluticasone. It is inhaled corticosteroid. And yes, it can be given in COPD patients along with ipratropium and albuterol. Ipratropium is anticholinergic in nature while albuterol is long acting beta2 agonist (LABA). Both of these are bronchodilators. Fluticasone is inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and it is having antiinflammatory action. It reduces airway edema and improves breathing. So no need to worry much. You can give BREO with ipratropium and albuterol. It will be more helpful to your father.
