Hi, My doctor just put me on Budesonide in addition to Humaria to treat my worsening Chrons disease. Have had this for 0ver 40 years. I am also in stage 3 renal failure and worried this new drug will not be good for my kidney disease. Your thoughts please...…

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Prolonged steroid may cause renal dysfunction. You have no other options as steroids are required for Crohn's disease. You can opt newer immunomodulators which are less nephro toxic but cost may be a problem. Your nephrologist will explain in detail.
