Hi I read that certain contraceptive pills can make the symptoms of gilbert's syndrome worse and wondered if this is true of cerazette? I have been on it for almost 3 months and my gilbert's syndrome is definitely worse but I do not know if this is the cause? Many thanks,
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Oral contraceptive pills can cause rise in bilirubin levels and jaundice may be worsened in patients with Gilbert syndrome. It is seen with combined estrogen and progesterone pills and you can use Progesterone only pills (pop) which are free of such side effects.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
