Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 91 years old. She was released from the hospital yesterday after spending 5 days in the hospital for treatment of Cellulitis. She was on IV meds Clindamycin and did not have any side effects. Today she has started belching, has gas, and it is uncontrollable. Could this possibly be from the Clindamycin?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Clindamycin along with any other antibiotics can cause gastritis and sometimes can cause belching. You can avoid this annoying symptom by adding antacids like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole along with Clindamycin. Avoid hot and spicy food stuffs as it can worsen the symptoms. If belching persist even after two days consult your physician.
Wishing all the best.
Thanks.
