Does Clopidogrel Interact With Simvastatin And Montelukast?

Yes I am trying to find out if any of my medications are incompatible. I am currently taking 10 different medicines by mouth. They are Hydrochlorothiaide 25 mg. once a day, Metoprolol Tart 50 mg 1 1/2 twice a day, Clopidogrel 75 mg once a day, Omeprazole DR 40 mg once a day, Montelukast 10 mg once a day, Cetirizine 10 mg once a day, Simvastatin 40 mg 1 1/2 once a day, Fluticasone 50 mg 2 sprays once a day, Aspirin 81 mg. once a day, Vitamin D3 1000 2 per day, Temazepam 30 mg once a day, Benadryl 25 mg once a day. I am sorry I miscounted. I have gained a lot of weight and I think some of this medicine is to blame. I had a heart attack March 16, 2015 and been on some of these medications since then.

Hello,

I understand you are concerned about any interactions between your medications, and especially if any can cause weight gain. Of all your medications, the only serious interaction is between Omeprazole and Clopidogrel; there has been concern that Omeprazole interferes with Clopidogrel, which as you may know is a blood thinner to protect you from any more heart attacks.

However, the evidence is not clear that Omeprazole actually causes any problems, and so I would not say you absolutely should stop Omeprazole. I recommend you make sure your doctor knows you are taking both these medications, and if Omeprazole is not necessary perhaps it could be stopped.

As far as I know, none of your medications cause significant weight gain. Most often weight gain is due to changes in diet, activity level, or metabolism. Perhaps since having your heart attack your activity level has not been what it used to be, and this might explain in part the weight gain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
