Hi, My mother was diagnosed with Brain and Bone Cancer (Stage 4) with METS back in the month of March 2014. We admitted her in hospital and began her radiotheraphy sessions which were performed on Brain, Neck and Spine. During her theraphy session she lost her consciousness and was in continous sleep mode. As per the doctors it was due to edema in the brain and body. She was than given steriods (Dexamethasone) to tapper off the edema. She has recovered well after 2 months of monitoring but now she suffers from another problem. Now she suffers from short term memory loss and is always in a hungry state. She does not even remembers that we gave her food 5 minutes ago. We are having a hard time managing it as any extra food results in her sugar levels being disturbed considerably. Is the hunger situation due to the steriods or side-effects of the radio-theraphy treatment that was performed on her brain? What should we do for her always hungry mode?
Hello,Welcome to the HCM, This state can be injury to some particular part of brain controlling hunger (hypothalamus ).The injury can be ischemic changes because of radiotherapy or METS. My opinion would be get checked by Neurologist and discuss further. You may ask further if you have any quiry. Regards,Dr.Maheshwari
