I am a type twodiabetic . I take one glucophage 500mg at lunch and diamicron 80mg in the evening or when I have eaten too much or been tempted to eat sweet things. For the past year I have had pain and soreness on my lower abdomen,no redness no itching .yesterday I transgressed and took two doses of diamicron and during the night I had shooting pains in the skin of my lower abdomen,so I used an ointment which has an anisetic to calm the down the discomfort. Do you think this discomfort is related to diamocron? If I take two doses of diamicron I make sure that they are two hours apart and never more than two doses a day.my age is 76 years.pl. Advise
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In diabetes, glucose levels need to be maintained on tight rule basis. If the glucose levels are too high or low, then the patient may have some symptoms of hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia but not the symptoms that is mentioned here of lower abdominal discomfort during night. Also, it is not due to the medication (Diamicron). Therefore, the only thing that could clear the doubt is to get the test done after the medicine is taken.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
