Get her clinically examined by a gynecologist and get confirmed if she is pregnant. In case she is pregnant she will either be given medicines to induce abortion (while she is taking medicine, she should be under the observation of the treating doctor, as she may need urgent medical aid). The doctor may advise D and C to be done depending on for how long she has been pregnant.
Emergency contraceptive pills work if taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is a one-time medicine that is effective if taken as instructed. Get your wife examined by a gynecologist, she will be managed accordingly. Yes, ECP do have side effects as they interfere with the hormonal system of the body.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
