Does Fluorouracil Cream Work Effectively Without Causing Inflammation?
Hi. I have been using Fluorouracil cream 5% 2X/day (sometimes 3X if I shower mid day) for 3 weeks on an AK on my nose. I was told to expect inflammation, dry skin and peeling, but have seen no inflammation at all. I had thought the inflammation was actually necessary for the medication to work. Is it possible that it is working despite no visible evidence of inflammation (The AK itself seems to have gone from brown to red, but is smooth and does not look irritated) or is the inflammation a necessary part of the treatment. I hate to keep putting chemicals on my skin if the treatment is not working!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Inflammation is not a rule to be present for the medication to act. Kindly revert back to your concerned doctor for how long should you put the Fluorouracil cream. I also recommend applying sunscreen as a rule everyday 20 mind before stepping out of the house and reapplying every 3-4 hours for optimal protection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
