Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has non-specific cirrhosis of the liver. His platelet levels are dropping to 77,000. He is becoming very weak and fatiqued. Will long term use (10 years +) of gabapentin aggravate his liver condition? He is also on a weekly injection of 50 mg Enbrel for psoriatic arthritis which also has me very concerned
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Gabapentin does not cause any harm to liver. It is excreted through kidneys so it is very much safe in patients with liver diseases. Enbrel is a newer drug. No hepatic(liver) side effects are reported but studies are still going on.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
