Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Gemfibrozil belongs to a group called fibrates. It is used to reduce low-density lipoproteincholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and raise high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) levels. Most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, mild stomach pain, headache, back pain and muscle pain. It may increase the risk of gallstone formation. You can take gemfibrozil to reduce your triglyceride level. Up to know gemfibrozil has not been found or reported to cause dementia.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Thank you, Malik Amonov MD
