My wife is complaining of Joint pain when raise arms, stabbing pain, mostly in the shoulder but elbows and wrist too. She had abad case of pnemonia a couple weeks ago and was prescribed a 5 day script of Levofloxacin. Is this a side effect? Is there anything she can/should do?

Hello,

Cannot say in your particular case, but generally, pneumonia is associated with inflammation all over and also with irritation of the chest/lung/diaphragm that seems like it is in the arms BUT that wouldn't be in the joints.

Levaquin is well known to be toxic to cartilage and tendon. BUT it is RARE for it to actually produce a toxic effect on them and it is generally only with large or long doses.

Checking with one's own doctor/prescriber is generally recommended when it is possible for a drug to cause problems but stopping it is likely to be riskier.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
