Does Pepto Bismal Cause Black Foul Smelling Stools?

My wife had a 1 day bug last Tuesday night where she had up all night diahrea and vomiting. She felt better in another day. But then Saturday night I was up all night with diahrea and vomiting. Spent most of the day Sunday on the couch. Took Extra Strenght Tylenol and Pepto Bismal for the abdominal discomfort and headache/body aches. Now this morning (Monday) I take a BM, and it s black stool with a terrible smell. Had a second BM this evening. Still mostly black. Just curious if the black stool is most likely caused by the Pepto, or if I should be concerned?

Yes, Pepto can turn stools black but all the same you should have your doctor check this out since you may have a bacterial colon infection
