Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have piriformis syndrome and take pravastatin. I have been going to physical therapy for 2 months with some relief from the intense muscle pain.. but I m still experiencing pain and weakness in the piriformis muscle and weakness in my leg. Could taking pravastatin be causing this muscle pain?
Hello, Pravastatin is known to produce pain and tenderness due to inflammation of the muscles. If the pain in the leg started after starting Pravastatin it may be a cause. You can get a blood test to measure the creatinine phosphokinase (CPK). If it is high it is indicative of muscle inflammation and Pravastatin should be stopped immediately. If you have more queries I am available to answer. Dr. Noble Zachariah
