Does Ranitidine HCL Cause Bruising Like Side Effects?

A family member of mine will be having surgery in a couple of weeks. He is taking Ranitidine HCL. The doctor told him to stop any medication that act as blood thinners. I noticed one of the rare side effects of this medicine is easy bruising and bleeding. Should he stop this medication before surgery?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Ranitidine HC indeed may rarely cause easy bruising or bleeding as it may induce thrombocytopenia , Since he is undergoing surgery,he needs to stop Ranitidine HCL and take PPI(proton pump inhibitor) e.g. Pantoprazole orally instead.
