Does Serta Taken During Pregnancy Affect The Baby After Delivery?

Hi, I delivered a healthy baby boy on January 25, 2014. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and my doctor advised me to take glyciphage for 10 days. I was also under depression so one of the psychiatrist advised me to take Fludac 10 mg. But, another psychiatrist advised me to stop Fludac after I had taken it for a week and start with Serta 25 twice a day, which I took till my delivery. I am concerned now, if my baby is affected because of above medication.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern. Glyciphage is used many-a-time to prevent and treat gestational diabetes and so far no harm has been reported in the baby. Fluoxetine may impair fetal neuromuscular development though evidence to this effect is still needed in humans. Sertraline is to be used in pregnancy only when the benefits outweigh the risks and when used during the last trimester, babies have shown withdrawal symptoms after birth. It is a category C drug. Hope this helps.
