Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a bad cough right now and I want to use over the counter Mucinex to counter this problem. Reading the warning label on the box says not to use this product with prescriptions that contain manoamine oxidase inhibitor or MAOI. I m currently taking the prescription SINEMET for parkinsons disease. Does SINEMET contain MAOI?
Sinamet contains carbildopa which is dopamine against. It is not an MAO inhibitor neither it contains MAOI. So you can use mucinex however care should be exercised while using this drug irrespective of MAOI or other drugs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
