Does Sugamet Affect The Kidneys?

good morning sir, i am kiran, lady of 58 years i developed high sugar level all of a sudden approx.five months back.A delhi based doctor prescriped sugamet mc 1000 one tab in morning and one tab in night but i am taking one tab in morning and half tab in night sugar level is under level may i discontinue the medicines .i fear in mind the regular use of medicines may effect my kidnyes.may be is my ignorance .pl. advese me. Thanks.

Dear Kiran,
Diabetes drugs are generally safe. What you have been prescribed is a combination of metformin. Metformin is generally safe and can be taken for years together. So please do not reduce dose. your kidneys will not be affected because of tablets.
