Does A Diuretic Cause Frequent Urination?

My doctor gave me a diuretic to get rid of some extra water in my body (ankles). I took my first pill this morning and have urinated about 15+ times today. I need to return to work tomorrow, I am a school teacher and I was wondering if I am still going to urinate that often and for how long? Thank you.

Hello,my name is dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.
I understand your concern.
Diuretics, called water pills, are medications designed to increase the amount of water and salt expelled from the body as urine.
So if you take these medications you are going to urinate often.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have any other question Ill be glad to help.
