Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It is very probable that your son has a hereditary tendency to increased blood clotting, as his doctor has stated (or so I understand from your letter) and cocaine, being a vaso constrictor (narrowing of the blood vessels) is a contributing factor. However, cocaine, per se, can promote blood clotting. So getting your son to give up using would be the starting point towards treatment of the existing and prevention of future blood clotting events.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ornela Ademovi
