Does Arthritis In The Neck Cause Muscle Ache In The Shoulders?
I am a 73 year old woman with muscle ache in shoulders, arm and back of one hand. I have diagnosed arthritis in my neck. I have also had previous ulnar issues. Is this being caused by my neck or some other inflammation. I am not sure with which doctor to address these symptoms - orthopedic, neurologist or rheumatologist.
Pain in your shoulders, arms and back of the hands might be related to arthritic changes in your neck.
These changes cause pain from nerve compression and irritation and radiate in arms and hands.
The treatment is the same, no matter if the cause is arthritis of the neck or ulnar issue.
You should take Naproxen daily, for one month, and also acetominofen+codeine phosphate twice daily when the pain gets worse. Also, you can apply cold packs locally.
I suggest you consult an orthopedist for further treatment and follow-up.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Suela Gjata, General & Family Physician
