Does Baby Powder Cause Long Term Damage To The Eyes Of An Infant?
When changing my 7 month old babies diaper this evening he grabbed the baby powder bottle and some got on his face(eyes and nose) I immediately wiped it away from his nose and eyes with wet rag and then used more water to from the rag to rinse his eye...he usually sleeps pretty well but tonight he just woke up screaming hysterically and nothing calmed him down except for a bottle... this is the first time he’s ever had baby powder near his face and it’s the corn starch base kind. I’m just nervous if his hysterically crying was from this or if it’s just he was hungry or possible starting night terrors itjust was weird how it happened the same night with the baby powder...my next question is is I’m afraid I didn’t rinse his eye well enough is there long term damage (blind) for that or will it just irritate it and is his lungs in danger from this one time incident... should I take him to the Er or call his dr right now or just wait til morning? I don’t wanna wait if it’s possible severe damage I’m really worried
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
His eye isn't red and he doesn't appear to be too sensitive to light. You can relax, baby powder won't cause long term damage. I don't think the crying is related to the accidental contact of powder in the infant's eye.
Hope it helps.
