Does Beginning On Birth Control Cause Delay In Periods?

I have been on birth control for 40 days and the first month I didn t miss my period. This month I am a day late now? Can that be a side effect or could I be pregnant? If I m pregnant when could I take a test? If it happened its been within the last 11 days.
