Does Blood In Urine Indicate Cancer?

In the middle of a 3 mile run two weeks ago I felt a sudden sense of urgency. After my run, I urinated and noticed blood in my urine. I went to a urologist 3 days later, and there was no blood present. He has scheduled me for an ultrasound for my kidneys and bladder, and a cystoscope of my bladder. I am worried as to my chances of some form of cancer.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Blood in the urine can be because of various reasons like infections, stone in the urinary tract, prostatitis, chronic kidney disease, mechanical stress on bladder, kidney and cancer also. Most common will be stones or infection. The investigations suggested are basic and will get you the results. Not to worry. Ruling out is better than to have any doubt.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nataraj Naidu R, General Surgeon
