Does Brown Discharge, Light Periods, Cramps And Heartburn Indicate Pregnancy?

Hi, I am 24 years old & have irregular periods. I had sex not long ago, ten days after sex I noticed a clear mucus/discharge & brownish blood when wiping after urinating. The day after I began bleeding for 2 days, it wasn t too heavy and no clotting. I had lower back pain (I don t usually have this with periods,) like a jabbing pain & cramping. I started having dizzy spells & heart burn. My friend suggested it could be implantation bleeding? At the time I had sex, my breasts were tender & sore, is this an indication I was ovulating? As I have irregular periods, I don t know when I ovulate or when I am due a period. I have taken 2 home pregnancy tests which wre negative, if I was bleeding because of implantation, would pregnancy show 2-4 days after after the implantation bleeding? If not, how long do I have to wait? I m now having blurry vision & feeling very tired...I don t know if this is due to implantation or something else? I d be great full if you could give me some advice

Hallow Dear,

You seem to be quite stressed out by the possibility of pregnancy.

In fact, the first cardinal symptom of pregnancy is missing a period. All other cardinal symptoms like nausea & vomiting with pica, frequent urination and breast symptoms show up after about 10 days of missed period. So breast tenderness at the time of intercourse cannot be attributed to pregnancy; it would be merely due to handling of the breasts.

Since your menses are irregular, it is a million dollar question to answer whether you have missed your period or not. The home pregnancy tests give reliable reports only after about a week after missed period; however since your menses are irregular, you cannot decide whether you have missed your period or not.

The reliable alternative for you in this situation is to opt for Beta hCG test. This test gives reliable report about 10 days after the conception. So get this test done 10 days after your last unprotected intercourse. If the values are under 5, you are not pregnant while values more than 25 are diagnostic of pregnancy.

Intermittent bloody brownish discharge may be a part of your irregular menses.

However, if you are pregnant the brown discharge is not a good sign. It is indicative of non-viable baby, when termination of pregnancy becomes mandatory. So, if Beta hCG test reveals that you are pregnant, please visit to your Gynaecologist ASAP.

I hope this helps you.
