I am a diabetic, diagnosed for 18 years. My diabetes has been largely uncontrolled with a1-c readings in the double digits until 2 years ago. I had heart stent in 2008, my kidney function has dropped to stage-3 and have lost sensitivity in the bottom of my feet and now have an ulcer on the bottom of my right foot for the past 4 months healing very slowly and under DR.s care. Would this be considered uncomplicated diabetes or complicated?
Hello there, From the description of your condition I would say that you are having diabetes with its complications. Most likely Diabetic Nephropathy (Kidney damage due to diabetes), Diabetic Neuropathy(nerve damage due to diabetes). Your heart condition could also be partly due to uncontrolled diabetes. Please be very careful with your foot ulcer and take every measure to get it healed as suggested by your doctor. I would suggest you to get an eye check to evaluate for diabetic retinopathy (if you have already not done it) as that is usually present when other complications of diabetes have set in. Discuss with your physician to keep your blood sugars under decent control, do not ignore diet restrictions as far as possible. You need to get frequent renal function tests to make sure that your kidney allows the medications you are on. Also try to chart your blood sugars at home with a Glucometer at different times of the day before and 2 hours after meals. Hope this helps. Take care.
