Does Congenital Myopathy Cause Tightness In The Hamstrings And Torticollis?
my 13 yr old daughter was diagnosed w/ spina bifida oculta, L5 disc bulge and degenerative disc changes. She also has complaints of left scapular winging, low grade (less than 10% scoliosis and internally rotated right hip. Her hamstrings/gastrocs are very tight. Before therapy, she was also having a slight torticollis in the shoulder/ sterno. We are not getting anywhere after physical therapy 3 days a week (since 8/16) Could this be a congenital myopathic situation? We seem to be going in circles and she is only getting more symptomatic. Thank you
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Has your daughter had these musculoskeletal abnormalities since birth? Congenital means present since birth. Myopathy involves diseases of the muscles. Because her difficulties involve both bone and muscle I feel she ought to be evaluated by a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
