Does Continued Oral Thrush Be Tonsillitis?

hi. I was diagnosed with oral thrush a few days ago. I was really sick when I went to the doctor, they did flu, strep and mono tests all were negative. They just diagnosed me as having a viral infection and gave me some ibuprofen. I didn't really even take the ibuprofen and my sickness was better pretty quick. I had been sick about a week before I went to the doctor and I was better in like 3 days after I went. I would have never noticed the oral thrush. they prescribed me nystatin to take care of it. now I can't really see too much of it on my toungue it's pretty much just my tonsils. it started in the left one and now it's on both the nystatin dosent seen to be helping. it is possible it's tonsillitis?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain if you had a white cheesy coating over your tongue then it can be oral thrush and it needs to be treated with anti-fungal medications and in that case nystatin is a correct medicine..
In case if you have tonsillar inflammation it can be due to infection in tonsils and if you see white spots over the tonsils it can be most probably be due to bacterial infection of tonsils leading to follicular tonsillitis and there is formation of pus pockets as fungal infection over tonsils is very rare..
You should consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and in case if there is tonsillitis he/she can prescribe you antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen, warm saline gargles and throat lozenges for relief..
If there is thrush over tongue then you will have to continue taking Nystatin, suck on clotrimazole lozenges and take plenty of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
