Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Continuous Application Of Lobate Ointment On Groin Skin Cause Harm?
I was prescribed to use Lobate ointment for itching and irritation on my groin skin, for not more than 3 months. After using for 15 days I got complete relief. But after 2 months again appeared. Now I am using once in 3 -4 days. If I dont use for 7 days, It reappears. 1) Is there any problem to use lobate continuously? 2) What is alternative? YYYY@YYYY
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. Lobate ointment contains clobetasol-topical corticosteroid. Avoid prolonged use,as it may turn the skin thinner, give rise to steroid dependence, contact dermatitis. The side-effects could even be systemic e.g. adrenal suppression and Cushing's syndrome. The most common cause of skin irritations of the groin is a fungus(ringworm of the skin of the groin). The groin is also a favoured site for some parasitic infestations e.g. Pubic lice, Scabies. Since Lobtae application is not solving your problem, you should stop applying the ointment and go for further investigation & treatment by a qualified dermatologist.
