Hi,
Cortisone injection belongs to the group of medications known as steroids or corticosteroids which is used to prevent the release of chemical mediators in the body that cause inflammation. Cortisone is used to treat various health conditions like
rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, allergic reactions and allergies, respiratory diseases like asthma, chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), blood disorders and many more.
Medications like Cortisone injection may cause some changes to woman's menstrual cycles. It can cause your menstrual periods heavier, scanty, irregular, prolonged or more frequent than usual. It may also cause
intermenstrual bleeding. You may have pain in your back, abdominal pain before starting or during the menstrual cycles. Again, Cortisone may cause soreness in the muscles of your back. These side effects are mild and self limiting as well as will subside with the passing of time. But, if these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor promptly for
medical help and further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
