HI,
I understand your concern.
Cough &
cold medicines with anti histaminic drugs/ some antibiotics which should be avoided in early
pregnancy. HOwever a short course of these medicines can not have bad effect. So no
self medication is advocated in early pregnancy.
It is better to prevent any such health issue- which would need medication/ to manage them with
home remedies, herbal medicines in early pregnancy . BUt if there is sever infection, doctor chooses safer drugs.
As for your wife is concerned, she has taken cough medicines before diagnosing pregnancy & you are worried for that. It's good, that she has stopped them after diagnosis. Please consult the doctor about safety of medicines she has taken. Usually we avoid giving harmful medicines to woman who expects pregnancy ( in 2nd half of her cycle ).
Please don't worry, inform your treating doctor about the fact.. so that care can be taken to avoid/ exclude/detect any bad effect in follow ups ( specially anomaly scan in 5th month)
Medicines like
folic acid/ Vitamin E/ omega 3 fatty acids /B complex do have role in preventing bad effects of the medicines. Doctor would advise it as per need,
Thanks.
