Does Discontinuing Atenolol Suddenly Cause Side Effects?

I have been taking Atenolol 100mg daily. There now appears to be a shortage and my scrip cannot be filled. After contacting my HCP, a scrip for Metoprolol ER Succinate 50mg Tabs was called in to the pharmacy.I read one cannot suddenly stop taking atenolol, so how will this affect my body s response? Hi,

I understand your concern.

Atenolol and Metoprolol appertain to the same drug group with the same effects. So, practically you are not stopping Atenolol as Metoprolol is providing the same effects as atenolol.

So, just follow your doctor's prescription.

All the best.
