Does Drinking Red Bull Cause Kidney Damage?

I am 24 years old and I drink 2-4 cans of red bull per day, and have had 3 episodes of renal colic over the past three years. Could this be due to the red bull? Can it cause kidney damage? I had a CTKUB 2 years ago which didn t show any kidney stones but have been referred to have an ultra sound. I do not have palpitations or any other symptoms related to caffeine over use...

some kidney stones (espcially those with GOUT/URIC ACID) do not show up on xrays but do show on dye studies of the kidney. The ingredients in energy drinks break down to uric acid. There is not a huge amount in the red bull, but, technically, it IS associated with URIC ACID stones (just not commonly and you have to be predisposed to haveing them also).
