Does Dubagest Increases The Cardiac Activity Of The Fetus?
I am into 6th week of my pregnancy.I am 29 & this is my first pregnancy. I have been on Folinext since 4 weeks of my pregnany. I had a USG done in the 5th week. The scan showed faint cardiac activity and well defined sac & foetal pole. My doctor then suggested a follow-up USG after 2 weeks & prescribed one dose/day Dubagest SR 300 for a month. My question is what is Dubagest for & why do I require it? Is it necessary for me & what side effects it could have on both my baby & me? Am concerned as I do not want a lot of medication but aim our well-being on good food & health.
I am Dr Madhuri a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and will be helping you with your queries. It seems that the first USG was too early. So it is lucky that cardiac activity was seen then. Usually it can be seen clearly after 6 weeks.
The dubagest is a progesterone and is given to prevent abortion. It helps to maintain normal pregnancy. There are no documented side effects of this drug on the baby. Maybe it was prescribed just as an additional precaution for the faint cardiac activity. If you want minimal medications, then this may be avoided. Or you may take it for 2 weeks till the next scan. If good cardiac activity is seen, there is no need for any further treatment and you may stop it after consulting your doctor. Please discuss this issue with your gynecologist as its use without symptoms does not have any benefits though there is no harm even.
Hope this satisfies your query. Thanks for using HCM. Feel free to ask any more questions that you may have. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist
