Does Electric Shock Like Sensation In The Right Hand Need Immediate Medical Attention?

Dear doctor, I have a strange tingling in my right hand. When the left side of my thumb (below the joint) rubs against anything, this triggers a tingling (like a minor electric discharge) in the right side of my ring finger (below the nail). It is not painful but very disturbing. It started 6 months ago, lasted 1-2 months, went away, then came back a month ago - every time with no obvious reason. FYI I am a vegetarian but have sufficient B12 level. And otherwise in good health, 40-year old male. Any idea? Should I shrugg this off for now or should it be investigated quickly? Thanks a lot for a first advice.

Hello,

An electrical shock like sensation is called Lehrmitts sign seen in cervical spondylosis or compressive myelopathy or multiple sclerosis etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Please get it done MRI brain and cervical x-ray ap view. Use tablet Pregabalin once daily for five days. Nerve conduction study is useful.

If symptoms not improved please consult your neuro physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
