I had a total hysterectomy last summer due to incredibly elevated estrogen levels. Off the charts, carcinogenic levels. I m 54, and have taken Prozac for years. I am on HRT and doc says my levels are good, but I alternate between sad/hopeless and wound up/nervous. My psych increased my prozac from 20mg to 40mg, but it has helped only minimally. I would like to know more about the interactions between estrogen and seratonin. Did my loss of high levels mean I now need more SSRI?
Estrogen levels will not affect the effectiveness of Prozac. However, since Prozac is not effective for you now, then talk to your doctor regarding switching to another SSRI.
