Does Excessive Intake Of Baking Soda Cause Burning Sensation In Throat?
I accidentally added double the amount of baking soda in a dark chocolate fleur de sel cookie recipe but didn t realize until after they were baked. They still tasted good, the texture seemed fine however my throat burned a little after eating one. This issue seemed to only affect me, no one else in my family. Maybe I m just more sensitive to baking soda or was it just mild heartburn or something? It s my first time experiencing this. I ve made the recipe before (with the correct ingredient quantities) and never felt the burn in my throat previously....so I assume the accidental extra baking soda is the culprit here. Thoughts?
Any excess soda is essentially causing the increased secretion of acid from the stomach as a reflex. Of course this varies from person to person and since you were used to a particular level a sudden change could have caused the problem. Take a mild antacid such as pantoprazole and avoid excess soda in the future. Hope this helps
