Does Exposure To A Sound Board Set To 85 DB Harmful?

I am concerned about the volume of sound at my Church during worship time. The sound board is set at 85 dB, and is very uncomfortable to me and my wife. We ve complained, but to no avail. Is 15-20 minutes exposure to that sound level harmful? We know well that it s uncomfortable, but is it harmful?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As a physician, Exposure of 85 dB sound for 20 minutes, it is not harmful. You can use ear plugs, ear mask at that time. If you suspect effect on hearing, do an audiometry.

I will suggest you to follow up with detailed history or consult with ENT surgeon for detailed examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
