Does Extended Citralka Intake By Elderly Patients Result In Adverse Side Effects?
Can Citralka be given on an extended basis to elderly female patient who is having recurrent UTI since 2 years, and also case of complications of chronic stroke/dementia and catherised. Since antibiotics are temporarily effective as is Citralka; UTI comes within normal range in a few days use of Citralka. No adverse effect of extended usage?

Hi, Citralka is alkalized of urine... It acts by neutralizing acidity of urine, thus reducing urine symptoms symptoms. Taking citralka over an extended period has risk of systemic alkalinity ... disturbing bodily actions,, specially that of heart... ** So though giving symptomatic relief & prolonging recurrence of infection, Citralka needs to be used with care under an expert guidance.. Consider following things while tackling a patient of catheterization- * Alternatives for catheterisation- Weather catheterization is essential/ Possibility of eliminating catheter should be discussed with treating doctor.( giving urinary pot/ using adult diapers with hygienic maintenance). * Irrigation of catheter with sterile water, meatal cleaning at the site of insertion, Change of collection bag, pathological testing of catheter sample of urine would help to delay the infection. * Use of preventive antibiotic. Thanks
