Does Fluctuating Sugar Level With Throat Discomfort Need Medical Attention?

I am type II diabetic, and have had very little to eat today, but my blood sugar tests are going crazy -- ie 200, 350, and now 500! (Normally it is 100-130 in the morning. I feel ok, except for a little vocal cord congestion the last few days. Should I go to the emergency room (drive myself)? or just stay home, fast and exercise... and see what happens? (I had two glasses of wine, pickled beets, two slices of bread... and two cups of coffee... thats all today.

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

You may want to see your doctor for assessment to determine the source of the high readings especially if you have been using your medication as prescribed.

Infections can cause an increase in blood sugar values but it should not go up to the levels that you are noting unless the infection is severe.

I hope this helps

if your reading shows 500(>1.5hrs apart from eating), you should be alert and get a consultation as early as possible. better not to go alone.
