53 years old my wife taking folitrax 7.5 mg 1 1/2 tablets once in a week since 5 months and 1 tab. folvite rest of the days as per doctor advice. recently from 20 days she is having temperature not more than 100.5 degree F. we have doubt that it may be due to side effect of Folitrax. please sir have your kind opinion and oblige. thanks. Vikram Shah from Vadodara Gujarat, India,
Folitrax (Methotrexate) believe it or not can cause mild fever. Generally, it does not rise above 101F but it does happen. This is one of the those medications where your body does not really adapt to it over time, so the temperature is likely to continue for the duration of her use of the Folitrax. This is not a common side effects but I have seen it occur with my own patients and it is reported in the medical literature.
I am not certain exactly what disease (perhaps an auto-immune disease) she is taking this for but it is also possible that the disease itself is causing the elevated temperature particularly if the disease has developed rather recently with your wife. Your prescribing physician may have alternative medication options other than the Folitrax so it may be worth discussing it with them.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
