Does Getting Periods After 5 Months Of Delay Normal?
I am 52 years old and haven t had a menstrual period in about 5 months. Yesterday, I noticed some light bleeding, which has since become rather heavy and is accompanied by some minor back pain, like a period. Could this just be a normal cycle, after so long of not having one?
Hi. I am glad you have taken this in consider because many women let this without noticing. Anyway, if you were my patient I would practice an ultrasound and a vaginal examination. The reason is to see what is happening to your inner lyer of the uterus. If it is thick I would recommend a curetage and send the material for examination, or a hysteroscopy to see the cavity of the uterus. Meanwhile, the vaginal examination help to seeyou cervix if it is clean or not. I would also recommend you to measure the Arterial Pressure. Sometimes in this age there are episodes of Hypertension which find fragile arteries in uterus and cause bleeding. These steps I would do just to make sure that everything is ok because this age is delicate. But, lastly, to not make things too dramatic, it may be a normal reactivity of the organism since you are not completelyin menopause and since have passed only 5 months. Hope to have helped you.
