I drank heavily all weekend from Thursday to Sunday while on vacation. On Tuesday I started to bleed vaginally very heavy. I had my period two weeks ago so this seems strange to me. Also I have been bleeding now for two days, pretty heavy and it is very bright red. Should I be worried?
Hi...Thanks for the query. Simply speaking, alcohol per se does not directly cause heavy menstrual bleeding in a healthy female. But in case of liver dysfunction; alcohol can further add the burden of its detoxification on an already compromised liver & thus may cause relative deficiency of pro-coagulant (bleed preventers) agents produced by liver resulting in bleeds. Secondly as you might be aware that any form of severe stress can affect menstrual periods & can cause heavy bleeding. Hence if this was an unaccustomed bout of heavy drinking; in interest of your own health, try & cut down on same. Get yourself evaluated by a doctor. if your liver function & general health is normal; this bleeding should subside very soon. Good Luck
