Does Kidney Disorder Cause Decreased Urine Output?

I have been taking Bactrim for 2 months to treat prostatic abscess. The latter condition has improved significantly (as determined by a recent CT scan). However, during the past few days, I noticed that my urine output seems to have decreased by almost one half. My question is: Could my reduced urine output be caused by kidney problem as a result of taking Bactrim?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* The Bactrim is known to produce kidney damage on long term use.
* I request you to stop further doses of Bactrim, drink plenty of liquids and
consult your doctor for further management guidelines as blood test in
terms of serum creatinine and others.

Wish you fine recovery.
Thank you.
