Does Light Red Discharge While On Candid V6 Indicate Harm To Foetus?

Hi, I am in my first month of pregnancy and the doctor prescribed candid V6 and Proximena 500 mg for me because I had thick dark-brown discharge that they said was a bacterial and yeast infection but had no RBCs, so my pregnancy was safe, after taking the tablets for the night, I have seen light red (almost blood like discharge) is this harming my baby?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What symptoms you are experiencing suggests you could be having bacterial and yeast infection of vagina.
The cream which you are using is right and it contains anti-fungal medication 'clotrimazole'. Since it is for topical application, it should not do any harm for the developing fetus.
Proximena 500 contains 'cefuroxime', which is an antibiotic. Cefuroxime has been assigned to pregnancy category B by FDA. Animal studies failed to reveal evidence of harming the fetus. Hence, it should only be given during pregnancy when need has been clearly established.
It is essential that you need to be cured of infection and hence you need to take the medications as prescribed. Hence, using these medications should not cause problems with pregnancy.
Kindly do the following things in addition to overcome the infection and to maintain good genital hygiene.
1. Clean the area with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon twice daily.
2. Use vaginal pH balancing solution like 'v wash' regularly.
3. Wear loose fitting undergarments to provide proper ventilation.
Kindly do the follow-up as necessary. Maintain good personal hygiene.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
