Does Losing Weight, Not Absorbing Nutrients, Nausea And Diarrhea Indicates IBS?

I have been anemic for a few years. My gp told me i was depressed and prescribed sertraline. This caused me to have stomach pains and loose stools. She said she then wanted to up my dosage. I did not. I stopped listening to her. A year later, I have lost so much weight, cannot hold food, do not absorb nutrients, thus suffer nausea. I have diarrhea and go at least twice daily. Now she says it is only IBS. Is she wrong ?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about anemia for a few years, GP said that you are depressed hence prescribed Sertraline, which caused stomach pains and loose stools, You did not increase the dose in spite of her suggestion and now , a year later you have lost weight, can not hold food, do not absorb nutrients, have nausea, diarrhea and go at least twice a day which she says is not IBS...
IBS is irritable bowel syndrome and said to be positive only if the histor is suggestive of it and all the relevant tests are normal.
We advise you the following:
Tests of stool for three consecutive days.
Tests of blood, particularly thyroid and liver functions.
CT scan of the abdomen and
Colonoscopy.
If one finds any disease, get a specific treatment.
If all the investigations are normal, then the obvious diagnosis is IBS and get treated accordingly.
You need therapeutic dosages of Vitamin A and D as well as multivitamins and probiotics.
