Does Lower Calorie Diet Cause Abdominal Pain?

I have had 4 or 5 shooting pains in my lower left side of my abdomen and then it goes away. Only started today but I have also had some tenderness in my abdomen due to what i believe is overworked bowels (I started the Slim fast, cutting calorie diet). I didn't know if that could just be my diet talking to me or an ovary problem. I had my right ovary taken out about 5 years ago and the pain was constant although if the sharp pain that hits me was constant it would be about as painful. So what could this be?

Hello and thank you for your question.
I have read it carefully and i understand your concerns.
Usually a lower calorie diet doesn't cause abdominal pain. However, if you changed your dietary habits too rapidly (i.e you suddenly added a lot of fibre: started eating wholegrains and salads) this could have caused a gastrointestinal upset. Also, you might have a sensitivity to some of the ingredients of the slim fast shakes (if you are taking any). Wait for a few days to see if your symptoms get better, otherwise consult your physician.

Kind Regards,
