Does Mantoux Test With 20/22 Result Indicate Tuberculosis?
Im 22 years old with weight 52kgs height 5'2 . I got my mantoux test done with results 20/22 ,so is that tuberculosis for sure? I get fever upto 104F in evening and upto 100-101F in morning with loss of appetite and vomits on eating .Kindly guide me please 'coz doctors here are giving different opinions ......thanking you
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Mantoux test is now diagnostic of tuberculosis. Only on the basis on Mantoux test result, anti tubercular drugs should not be started. This test is used for only screening purpose. It is just give additional information about having TB infection. So tuberculosis should not be diagnosed by Mantoux positive. You symptoms like loss of appetite, evening rise fever, vomiting etc can be due to intestinal infection. So better to get done blood reports, ultrasound examination of abdomen and chest x ray to rule rule out other possible causes. Don't start anti tubercular drugs at present.
