Does Medication For High BP Causes Blackening Between Teeth?
I take lisinopril for bp control and have recently added norvasc in combination with the lisinopril. since taking the two I have noticed excessive black staining between my bottom front teeth. I am 56 male and very healthy. I do smoke, but have never had this staining before. Teeth cleaned 2 months ago. No staining at the time, just since I started the two meds together. Any correlation?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Priyanka's Response
Hi,
It is unlikely that Lisinopril or Norvasc would directly cause black staining between teeth. However, some medications can cause dry mouth or changes in saliva production, which can contribute to tooth discoloration. Smoking can also cause tooth discoloration. It is best to speak with your dentist or doctor about your concerns and schedule a dental appointment to address the staining.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
